"I'll study when I get home." No, you won't. You'll be tired, hungry, and covered in sawdust. To pass the ISA exam while working full-time, you need a default schedule.
The "5-Day Split" Template
This schedule assumes you work M-F. It gives you weekends mostly off (except for one big session).
Monday: The "Input" Day (45 mins)
- Goal: Learn new material.
- Activity: Read 1 chapter of the Study Guide. Highlight key terms.
- Checklist:
- [ ] Read Chapter.
- [ ] Answer Workbook Questions at end of chapter.
Tuesday: The "Recall" Day (30 mins)
- Goal: Memorize terms.
- Activity: Flashcards. Review the bold words from yesterday's chapter.
- Checklist:
- [ ] Review "New" Flashcards (10 mins).
- [ ] Review "Old" Flashcards (10 mins).
Wednesday: The "Scenario" Day (45 mins)
- Goal: Apply knowledge.
- Activity: Take a 30-question diagnostic quiz.
- Checklist:
- [ ] Complete Quiz (no notes!).
- [ ] Log errors in notebook.
Thursday: Rest / Light Review
- Goal: Avoid burnout.
- Activity: Listen to an arbor culture podcast or review 5 flashcards while cooking dinner.
Friday: Rest (Date Night)
- Goal: Mental health. No studying.
Saturday morning: The "Deep Work" Session (90 mins)
- Goal: Tackle the hard stuff.
- Activity: Focus on your weakest domain (e.g., Soil science). Draw diagrams. Watch videos.
- Checklist:
- [ ] Deep dive into 1 weak concept.
- [ ] Re-take the questions you missed on Wednesday.
Sunday: Logistics & Prep
- Goal: Set up next week.
- Activity: 15 minutes planning.
- Checklist:
- [ ] Pick the domain for next Monday.
- [ ] Ensure flashcards are ready.
The Study Checklist (Print This)
- [ ] Did I do active recall (closed book) at least twice?
- [ ] Did I log my mistakes?
- [ ] Did I take at least one timed quiz?
- [ ] Did I take one full day off?
Consistency > Intensity
It is better to study 30 minutes a day than 5 hours once a week. Your brain needs sleep to encode memory.
