Tree Nerd Academy ("we," "us," or "our") is operated by Nordic Social Media AB, a company registered in Sweden, which is the data controller for the personal data described here. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect when you use treenerdacademy.com and our course platform (the "Platform"), why we collect it, and who we share it with.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account and purchase information
When you buy a course we collect your name, email address, and purchase details (such as the plan you bought and the amount paid). Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

1.2 Learning information
We store your course progress, practice exam and quiz answers, and the questions you ask our AI study tools, so we can show your progress and give you personalized study help.

1.3 Free practice exam
If you take our free practice exam we store your answers and score. If you enter your email to see your results, we store your email and whether you agreed to receive exam-prep emails. To prevent abuse we also store hashed (not readable) identifiers derived from your IP address, browser, and a cookie.

1.4 Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Analytics: to understand how visitors use the site (DataFast, Vercel Speed Insights)
- Affiliate referrals: a referral cookie that lasts 14 days, so partners who refer you get credit (Affonso)
- Advertising measurement: the Meta Pixel and the Google Ads tag, which record page visits and purchases so we can see which ads work (see section 4)

2. How We Use Your Information

- Give you access to the course and your account, including sign-in links sent by email
- Process payments and keep accounting records
- Send emails about your account, purchases, and course access
- Send exam-prep emails if you agreed to receive them (you can unsubscribe at any time)
- Generate personalized study feedback and power our AI tutor
- Measure and improve our advertising
- Prevent fraud and abuse, and provide customer support
- Improve the Platform and our course content

3. Service Providers We Share Data With

We share personal data only with companies that help us run the Platform, and only as needed for that purpose:
- Stripe: payment processing
- Supabase: database and account sign-in
- Vercel: website hosting and performance monitoring
- Resend: sending emails
- Google (Gemini) and OpenAI: generating study feedback and AI tutor answers from the content you submit
- DataFast: website analytics
- Affonso: affiliate referral tracking
- Meta and Google: advertising measurement and audiences (see section 4)

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information.

4. Advertising and Measurement (Meta and Google)

We advertise on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. To understand which ads lead to sign-ups and purchases:
- The Meta Pixel and Google Ads tag on our site record visits and purchases.
- When you make a purchase, we send Meta and Google an encrypted, one-way hashed (SHA-256) version of your email address together with the order details, so they can match the purchase to an ad you may have seen or clicked.
- We may upload hashed lists of customer and practice-exam email addresses to Meta (Custom Audiences) and Google (Customer Match), to avoid showing ads to existing customers, to measure results, and to reach people with similar interests.

Meta and Google process this data under their own terms and privacy policies. You can ask us at any time to exclude your email from these uploads by emailing us at the address below. You can also manage how ads are personalized for you at https://adssettings.google.com and https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences.

5. Legal Bases (EEA and UK visitors)

We process your data to perform our contract with you (course access and payments), based on our legitimate interests (security, analytics, and measuring and improving our advertising), to comply with legal obligations (such as accounting rules), and based on your consent where the law requires it (for example, exam-prep marketing emails).

6. International Transfers

Several of our service providers are based in the United States. When your data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the provider's certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

7. How Long We Keep Data

We keep account and course data while your account is active. Purchase records are kept for as long as accounting law requires. Practice exam and email-list data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.

8. Data Security

We use appropriate security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

Tree Nerd Academy is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the email address below.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to processing, including to having your data used for advertising audiences
- Request data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
